Hearing on the EU Data Protection Regulation March 17, Rosenbad

On March 17, the Department of Education arranged a hearing on the new EU Data Protection Regulation at Rosenbad, inviting representatives for universities, government agencies, and other stake holders for a discussion regarding the upcoming legislation. The proposal as well as the process in the council and parliament was described. Reserachers as well as register holders expressed deep concern about the future for register based and other research based on person identifiable data. It is felt that the Swedish government has understood the concerns of the reserach community, but it is more questionable how much this will affect the outcome of the negotiations concerning the future European legislation.
