The open national SIMSAM meeting ”Social Stratification and Health” was organized by the GOCARTs node at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg 3 March, 2015.
Initially Bertil Lindahl presented general aspects of quality registries and how quality registries can be used in research. Also the register based randomized clinical trial, R-RTC, as a new concept in clinical research was introduced. Next Jonas F Ludvigsson discussed key issues of importance for the validation of registers and provided valuable tips regarding validation of registers. Johan Fritzell talked about health inequalities (HI) and social determinants of health. Among other things, “upstream” factors contributing to HI, the social gradient and the fact that there is no consensus on mechanisms underlying HI was discussed. Annika Rosengren introduced the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Imaging Study (SCAPIS) and its pilot study in Gothenburg (Social differences in health and income in Gothenburg). Soffia Gudbjörnsdottir talked about the National Diabetes Register and presented studies and conclusions based on data from the register.
In the last session new SIMSAM nodes were presented:

- SIMSEG (Maria Brandén)
- GOCARTs (PI Annika Rosengren)
