According to reliable sources the new European data protection regulation will be published by the end of May 2016, and will be effective as from June 2018. During this time, member states will have to adapt national legislation to the new rules. Among other things, the Swedish Personal Data Act (Personuppgiftslagen) will be eliminated and replaced by national legislation as prescribed in the new European regulation. By June 2018 there also has to be national legislation adapted to research in general and to the use of personal data in research.
