On March 31, 2011, the Swedish Government decided to appoint a commissioner (Bengt Westerberg) to investigate Statistics Sweden (SCB) and the system of public statistics and to analyze pros and cons with a centralized versus a decentralized systems of statistics (to be reported by December 10, 2012).
On March 8, 2012, the Swedish Government decided to also assign the commisioner to suggest organizational and technical measures that can facilitate register-based research. On May 2, 2012, the commission handed in this part of the report: "Register data for reserach, SOU 2012:36F".
