UGIR debate article on the importance of the obligation of health care providers to report to the Patient Registry

Today many private health care providers do not take their legal responsibility to report treatment to the Patient Registry seriously. Such negligence is identified a threat to Swedish medical research using relevant registries and also to patient safety. In order to improve the situation, a number of concrete measures are suggested by the authors of the debate article. One proposal is to only grant private health care providers financial compensation if they conduct proper reporting to the Patient Registry.

Authors of the debate article in Dagens Medicin no. 39/13 are the researchers Rickard Ljung and Jesper Lagergren, both at Unit of Upper Gastrointestinal Research (UGIR) at Karolinska Institutet.
