MEB tips on how to structure and document research projects

To establish good research documentation it is important to ensure that the research material and results in a fast and easy way can be reproduced, controlled and, if necessary, re-used. Positive effects of a carefully prepared documentation routine saves time and reduces the risk of mishandling of research material. Key factors for successful research documentation is a well thought-out folder structure, analysis plan, log and codebooks. Colleagues at the Dept. of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Karolinska Institutet) and the Hematology Center (Karolinska University Hospital) recommend a routine which will enable the researcher to work in accordance with current Swedish legislation, streamline the research and writing of scientific articles, as well as the archiving of completed studies. Simple tools are aimed to provide a clear overview of the research process.
