Recent information indicates that the proposal for a new data protection regulation will be discussed in the European Parliament in March 2013. But the process in the Council of Ministers is slower. It will according to reliable sources take the whole spring semester before the Council is ready to negotiate with the Parliament rapporteur. This means that a decision concering data protection will not be taken before the election to the European Parliament in the fall of 2014. It is possible, although not neccessary, that the new parliament wish to take another look at the proposal after the election. It is therefore reasonable to expect a delay until 2016 before a new legislation is in place.
