The General Data Protection Regulation is adopted by the European Council 8 April 2016

The European Council of Ministers will adopt the General Data Protection Regulation on 8 April 2016. 

The dates for votes in Parliament are still to be confirmed, but the following timetable may be used:

  • Tuesday 12 April, 11:15 – 11:45: LIBE Committee vote
  • Thursday 14 April, 12:00 – 14:00: Plenary vote
  • June/July 2016: Publication in the Official Journal of the European Union
  • The Regulation will take effect two years after formal adoption
